COURSE OVERVIEW

Assessment of Needs:

Rapid advances in HIV disease management require the ongoing attention of practitioners involved in HIV medicine. This course will address the implications of new information on strategies for clinical management. Information will be presented through a mix of didactic lectures and clinically relevant cases developed by an expert faculty of HIV/AIDS clinicians and researchers.

Conflicts of Interest:

Information regarding financial relationships with commercial companies that have interests in the content discussed, is obtained from all parties with control over the activity content (ie, co-chairs, faculty, and IAS–USA staff), and any real or apparent conflicts of interest of those parties are resolved prior to the activity being delivered. Financial affiliations of all those parties are published in the course syllabus. Individuals who refuse to disclose financial interests may not participate in the CME activity.

Who Should Attend:

This course is designed for physicians and other clinical decision makers who are actively involved in the medical care of people with HIV/AIDS, specifically those who:

  • Have a solid, working knowledge of HIV disease management

  • Provide comprehensive or specialty care for patients with HIV/AIDS

  • Are currently active in HIV/AIDS research

This course is relevant for practitioners who are involved in HIV/AIDS patient care, including nurse practitioners and other nursing professionals, physician assistants, pharmacists, and others.

Representatives and employees of commercial companies (pharmaceutical, diagnostic, medical products, advertising, insurance, investment, communications firms, etc) must contact the IAS–USA regarding registration procedures.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Design antiretroviral strategies that consider:

    • Pathogenesis of HIV infection
    • New data on initiation of therapy in specific populations with HIV infection
    • Cost considerations for therapy
  • Describe current data on preventing HIV transmission

  • Implement strategies for diagnosing and treating older HIV infected populations
  • Formulate strategies for managing specific HIV-associated opportunistic infections

CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION INFORMATION

Accreditation:

The IAS–USA is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit Designation Statement:

The IAS–USA designates this educational activity for a maximum of 5.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Please note that nursing continuing education credits are not provided for this course. Nurse practitioners and other nursing professionals will receive a certificate of attendance.

Nursing credits are provided at selected courses. To determine if they are offered for a specific course, please click the corresponding link on the course schedule page and look under "continuing medical education information."

American Academy of Family Physicians Credit:

This activity, 19th Annual Improving the Management of HIV Disease Advanced CME Course, with a beginning date of April 5, 2011, has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 5.50 prescribed credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians.

The registration fee is $65 on or before March 15, and will increase to $85 after March 15. Early registration is strongly recommended. Preregistration closes on March 29.

Incomplete applications (missing information, unchecked boxes, no payment included) will be returned for completion, prior to processing. If you have not registered or have not received registration confirmation 2 weeks prior to the course, please contact us to confirm that seating is still available.
