COURSE OVERVIEW

Assessment of Needs:

Rapid advances in HIV disease management require the ongoing attention of practitioners involved in HIV medicine. This course will address the implications of new information on strategies for clinical management. Information will be presented through a mix of didactic lectures and clinically relevant cases developed by an expert faculty of HIV/AIDS clinicians and researchers.

Conflicts of Interest:

Information regarding financial relationships with commercial companies that have interests in the content discussed, is obtained from all parties with control over the activity content (ie, co-chairs, faculty, and IAS–USA staff), and any real or apparent conflicts of interest of those parties are resolved prior to the activity being delivered. Financial affiliations of all those parties are published in the course syllabus. Individuals who refuse to disclose financial interests may not participate in the CME activity.

Who Should Attend:

This course is designed for physicians and other clinical decision makers who are actively involved in the medical care of people with HIV/AIDS, specifically those who:

Have a solid, working knowledge of HIV disease management
Provide comprehensive or specialty care for patients with HIV/AIDS
Are currently active in HIV/AIDS research

This course is relevant for practitioners who are involved in HIV/AIDS patient care, including nurse practitioners and other nursing professionals, physician assistants, pharmacists, and others.

Representatives and employees of commercial companies (pharmaceutical, diagnostic, medical products, advertising, insurance, investment, communications firms, etc) must contact the IAS–USA regarding registration procedures.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

Design antiretroviral strategies that consider current data on:

Initial therapy
The role of new and investigational drugs
Treatment options for experienced patients
Pre-exposure prophylaxis

Identify the biomarkers of aging in the HIV-infected patient and how they differ from the non HIV-infected population
Recognize cognitive decline issues in HIV-infected patients that lead to cerebrovascular disease
Determine which HIV-infected patients with HCV infection are candidates for HCV treatment with directly acting antivirals, and design regimens and assessments of response
Explain the key issues and treatment implications associated with cardiovascular complications of HIV disease in HIV-infected patients

CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION INFORMATION

Accreditation:

The International Antiviral Society–USA (IAS–USA) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit Designation Statement:

The IAS–USA designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nursing Credits:

Southeast AIDS Training and Education Center is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Georgia Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's COA.

Nurses who attend the entire program earn 5.5 contact hours.

American Academy of Family Physicians Credit:

This Live activity, 20th Annual Improving the Management of HIV Disease Advanced CME Course: New York, with a beginning date of March 20, 2012 has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 5.5 Prescribed credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The registration fee is $65 on or before February 28, and will increase to $85 after February 28. Early registration is strongly recommended. Preregistration closes on March 13.

If you have not registered or have not received registration confirmation 2 weeks prior to the course, please contact us to confirm that seating is still available.

Registered attendees may access the course syllabus, in PDF format, on our Web site after March 13. Please note: The syllabus is typically more than 100 pages long and may take extra time to download. Please submit requests for cancellation or substitution in writing to the IAS–USA office by March 13.
