General Educational Objectives for
2010 Courses
Upon completion of an IAS-USA course, participants will be able to:
- Design antiretroviral strategies that consider current data on:
- When to initiate therapy
- new initial regimens
- Treatment failure and management of complicated failure
- Mechanisms of resistance and nuances in interpreting resistance test results
- Drug-drug interactions
- The role of new and investigational drugs
- Metabolism complications and toxicities of HIV and its therapies
- Identify and discuss new issues in HIV pathogenesis, as they impact clinical treatment strategies
- Formulate appropriate management strategies for HIV coinfection, such as hepatitis B and C viruses and sexually transmitted infections
- Formulate appropriate management strategies for special populations such as substance users, women, and patients with comorbidities
- Discuss topics in HIV clinical treatment specific to the needs of the regional HIV specialists
