General Educational Objectives for
2010 Courses


Upon completion of an IAS-USA course, participants will be able to:

  • Design antiretroviral strategies that consider current data on:
    • When to initiate therapy
    • new initial regimens
    • Treatment failure and management of complicated failure
    • Mechanisms of resistance and nuances in interpreting resistance test results
    • Drug-drug interactions
    • The role of new and investigational drugs
    • Metabolism complications and toxicities of HIV and its therapies
  • Identify and discuss new issues in HIV pathogenesis, as they impact clinical treatment strategies
  • Formulate appropriate management strategies for HIV coinfection, such as hepatitis B and C viruses and sexually transmitted infections
  • Formulate appropriate management strategies for special populations such as substance users, women, and patients with comorbidities
  • Discuss topics in HIV clinical treatment specific to the needs of the regional HIV specialists
