Dr Guatelli is Professor of Medicine at the University of California San Diego, where he teaches medical microbiology. Dr Guatelli is trained in infectious diseases medicine and has an HIV primary care clinic within the San Diego Veterans Affairs Healthcare System. His primary activity is basic research on the host-pathogen interactions mediated by the HIV-1 proteins Vpu and Nef, specifically how these allow the virus to evade the innate and adaptive immune responses.
