Current Professional Summary

Dr Swindells is Medical Director of the HIV Clinic at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) and is the Terry K. Watanabe Professor of Internal Medicine in the Section of Infectious Diseases. She is also Director of the Nebraska AIDS Education Training Center and Principal Investigator for the Nebraska AIDS Clinical Trials Group unit.

A native of England, Dr Swindells earned her medical degree from University College in London in 1977 and did postgraduate training in England and at the University of Washington in Seattle. A clinician and active researcher, Dr Swindells has served as principal investigator on several clinical trials with the National Institutes of Health and pharmaceutical companies. She is an active teacher at UNMC and elsewhere. Dr Swindells performs editorial and grant reviews and serves on several UNMC and College of Medicine committees. She has published multiple articles in scholarly journals, written book chapters, and is an editor for The Neurology of AIDS.
