  • December 13, 2011 : Now Available Online: Dr David McCollum provides a review of the exciting advances in HIV and HCV treatment presented at the 2011 Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) Annual Meeting. Topics discussed include oral preexposure prophylaxis, the newly approved drug rilpivirine, and the timing of initiating antiretroviral therapy in regards to tuberculosis treatment.

This presentation discusses the increased risks for HIV-infected persons of acquiring HBV, the means of prevention, chronic HBV infection, treatment options for HIV/HBV coinfected patients, and the emergence of drug resistance or intolerance to standard medications in coinfected patients.
