Treatment Guidelines

The International AIDS Society–USA commissions volunteer panels of experts to develop clinical practice recommendations and guidelines in areas of HIV medicine that are confusing or controversial. Funding for the guidelines is provided by the International AIDS Society–USA; commercial support is not accepted. Expert panel members participate on a volunteer basis.

HIV Physician Expertise Study

Members of the board of directors and staff of the International AIDS Society–USA collaborated in 1999 and 2000 with investigators at the University of California San Francisco to study the relationship between physician experience, self-perceived expertise, and confidence in providing care in the field of HIV. They surveyed 359 physicians attending IAS–USA CME courses in 1999. The results of their work were recently published in AIDS Patient Care and STDs:
