OVERVIEW

The 13th Annual Clinical Conference for the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program Parts A, B, C, and D practitioners will be held in conjunction with the 2010 Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program Grantee Meeting, “Twenty Years of Leadership, A Legacy of Care,” from August 23-25, 2010 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC.

The goal of the Clinical Conference is to provide a comprehensive overview of current clinical issues in HIV management and current strategies in HIV medical care for practitioners in Ryan White Parts A, B, C, and D funded programs. This state-of-the-art Continuing Medical Education (CME) program will include 3 days of lectures and interactive workshops. Attendees are encouraged to bring cases and questions for discussion.

The Clinical Conference is supported by and planned in collaboration with staff from the HIV/AIDS Bureau (HAB), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the US Department of Health and Human Services, and Southeast AIDS Training and Education Center (SEATEC). This CME program is sponsored by the IAS–USA under the HRSA contract number HHSH250200900010c.

This activity has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.

CLINICAL CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES

The goal of this Clinical Conference is to provide a comprehensive and timely overview of HIV treatment issues and current strategies in HIV medical care for practitioners in Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program–funded Parts A, B, C, and D clinics.

The meeting will promote active participation among practitioners throughout the 3 days of lectures and workshops sessions.

Upon completion of the Clinical Conference, participants will be able to do the following:

  • Design antiretroviral strategies that consider new data on
    • Initial therapy
    • Interpretation of resistance test results
    • Antiretroviral regimen failure
    • Drug-drug interactions
  • Explain the key clinical aspects of neurocognitive and cardiovascular complications in HIV disease
  • Describe current data on new investigational drugs for hepatitis C virus as they impact the potential for future treatment
  • Design appropriate interventions for HIV patients with mental health issues
  • Explain the successful models for HIV testing and linkage to medical care
  • Describe the incidence and management of oral and dermatologic manifestations of HIV disease
  • Identify current treatment challenges in HIV care as they relate to adolescents, women, the aging population, and the transgender population
  • Describe current data on post-exposure prophylaxis
  • Develop practical plans for improving patient retention in care
  • Identify and differentiate new diagnostics for sexually transmitted diseases
  • Explain the current challenges and future direction of the HIV workforce

American Academy of Family Physicians Credit
This activity, 13th Annual Clinical Conference for the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program, with a beginning date of August 23, 2010, has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 16.00 Prescribed credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Nursing Credits

SEATEC is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Georgia Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

Contact hours will be awarded based on attendance at the entire training program and submission of completed evaluation forms.

* Note: The clinical keynote presentation on Monday, August 23, 2010 is an element of the Grantee Meeting and is therefore not eligible for CME Credits toward participation in the Clinical Conference.

 

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED FOR THE CLINICAL CONFERENCE.

Both the general session and overflow rooms have reached the maximum capacities. In the event of a cancellation(s), registration(s) will be confirmed in the order that waitlist registrations were received.

Although held concurrently and at the same hotel, the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program Grantee Meeting and the Clinical Conference are separate meetings. To register for both conferences, you will be required to complete 2 separate registration forms.

Clinical Conference Registration:

The Clinical Conference is designed for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and other direct clinical care providers who are actively involved in HIV care in a Ryan White-funded program. Interested practitioners should contact the program manager/coordinator to confirm the maximum number of clinicians allowable for this conference and what is covered.

Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first served basis. Due to space limitations, registration may be closed at the discretion of HRSA/HAB so as to offer attendees the best educational experience. To avoid any airline penalty fees, it is recommended that registrants do NOT reserve air travel until receiving a confirmation letter in the event that the conference is full. There will be no on-site registration available.

Clinical Conference Registration Fee

There is no cost to attend the Clinical Conference; however, the numbers of participants are limited by Program. Questions about who should participate and limitations should be directed to your HAB Project Officer.

Special Note: Your Clinical Conference registration does NOT include the following:

  1. Registration for the Grantee Meeting. Registration information and details of the Grantee Meeting are available at www.ryanwhite2010.com. The registration deadline for the Grantee Meeting has been extended to July 16, 2010.
  2. Hotel guest room reservation. Attendees MUST book their hotel reservations directly with the hotel. For details on Hotel reservations, please refer to the Hotel Information section of this website.

Workshop Sign-up:

Clinical Conference workshops will be available to Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program clinical decision makers. Workshop sign up forms will be sent to those practitioners after their registration has been confirmed. Notification of workshop assignments will be sent approximately 2 weeks prior to the meeting.

Conference Check-in and Information Desk:

There will be separate check-in and information desks, 1 for each of the 2 meetings, at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel. Those attendees who are registered for both meetings must check-in at both desks.

  • Clinical Conference check-in and information desk will be located on the Mezzanine Level, by the Thurgood Marshall Ballroom
  • Grantee Meeting check-in and information desk will be located on the main lobby level by the escalators

Clinical Conference attendees should plan to check-in to receive their conference name badge and materials at the check-in and information desk. The desk will be located on the Mezzanine level, in the Thurgood Marshall Ballroom Foyer and will be open daily, during the hours listed below.

THE HOST HOTEL, THE MARRIOTT WARDMAN PARK, AND THE OVERFLOW HOTEL, THE OMNI SHOREHAM, ARE SOLD OUT. Attendees still requiring a guest room may wish to check with the hotels directly for cancellations. Details for an additional overflow hotel will be posted on this website as it becomes available.

The 2010 Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program Grantee Meeting and 13th Annual Clinical Conference will be held at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC and a limited number of guest rooms have been reserved at the hotel. To obtain the negotiated conference rate, guest room reservations must be made directly with the hotel by July 14, 2010. After that date, the block of rooms will be closed and the negotiated rate cannot be guaranteed. Please make your reservations early as space may be filled quickly.

Marriott Wardman Park Hotel Attendee Meal Package

The minimum number of required participants for the Hotel Attendee Meal Package was not reached. The Package will not be available and those attendees who submitted a form with payment information will not be charged.

Alternative Dining Options/ Where to Eat

The Marriott Wardman Park is conveniently located in downtown Washington, DC. In addition to restaurants located at the hotel, there are several restaurants in walking distance of the Marriott Wardman Park. You may view Details on Local Restaurants, including pricing and location. This list was provided by the hotel and a copy can also be obtained at the hotel concierge desk.

Allowable Meeting and Travel Costs:

Attendees are responsible for their own arrangements for air travel to and from Washington, DC, hotel stay, ground transportation, and per diem costs. RW Program, Part C and D attendees should review their grants to determine what travel and meal costs are allowable by their current HRSA grants. RW Program, Part A and B subcontractors should contact the grantee of record to determine if these costs are allowable.

For information on maximum reimbursement for meals and incidental expenses (M&IE) while on travel, including a breakdown of breakfast, lunch, and dinner components, attendees should contact the grantee of record to confirm what rates apply.

  1. What time does the meeting start and end?

    • Check-in will open Sunday August 22nd from 3:00pm - 6:00pm.
    • The Grantee Meeting and Clinical Conference begin with an opening plenary on Monday August 23rd at 8:30am.
    • The Grantee Meeting will convene August 23-26, 2010.
    • The 13th Clinical Conference will convene August 23-25, 2010.
    • The Grantee Meeting is scheduled to end Thursday August 26, 2010 at 1:30 p.m.

  2. What are the days and times for checking in onsite and receiving my Clinical Conference materials?

    The Clinical Conference check-in desk, in the Thurgood Marshall Foyer located on the Mezzanine level, will be open daily:

    JULY 14, 2010: DUE TO THE MEETING SPACE LIMITATION, REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED. Any registrations received after this date, will be placed on a waiting list. In the event of a cancellation, registrations will be confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis.

    There is no registration fee to attend either meeting. However, all participants must register in advance and in compliance with limitations on the number of participants for each grantee program.

  4. If my plans change and I am not able to attend the Clinical Conference, is my registration transferable?

    Yes, your Clinical Conference registration can be transferred to a colleague, although bear in mind that any such transfer should be completed prior to August 9, 2010.

  5. Are CME credits provided through this course?

    Yes, CME credits will be made available to Clinical Conference meeting registrants at no additional charge.

  6. What is the contact information for the hotel and do I need to make my own arrangements for a hotel room?

  9. What should I wear to the meeting?

    Casual attire is encouraged for the meeting. August in Washington, DC is usually hot and humid, so dress lightly when going outside. However, the hotel will be air conditioned, and some people find it to be overly cool. Consider bringing a light sweater.

  10. If I have special needs, how do I submit my request?

    If you are in need of any special assistance at the meeting, please note your request on the registration form, or notify the IAS–USA at least 2 weeks in advance, so that the necessary arrangements may be made.
