The 11th Annual Clinical Update for Ryan White (RW) Parts A, B, C, and D practitioners was held in conjunction with the 2008 RW HIV/AIDS Program Grantee Meeting, “New Era, New Act,” from August 25-27, 2008 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC.

This activity consists of audio and visual recording of 17 live presentations. To receive CME credit, please read the overview and follow the link to the presentation.

Needs and Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  • Identify current issues and future trends in the use of long-term cohort data in HIV clinical research
  • Discuss new effective methods for outreach to HIV patient populations and retention in care
  • Design antiretroviral treatment regimens that consider the recent data on
    • Initiating antiretroviral therapy
    • Management of complicated antiretroviral failure and drug resistance
    • The role of HIV resistance testing and other assays and nuances in interpretation of the results
    • The status of new investigational antiretrovirals and new classes
    • Drug-drug interactions among newer approved and investigational antiretrovirals
  • Describe the management of hepatitis B and C viral coinfections with HIV using new approved and investigational agents
  • Formulate new processes for quality improvement in HIV clinics emphasizing the clinician’s role in supporting and implementing changes
  • Discuss the incidence, diagnosis, and management of opportunistic diseases, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureau (MRSA), and dermatologic manifestations
  • List the major issues regarding the management of specific patient populations with HIV infection, including children, adolescents, and women

CME Credit


The International AIDS Society–USA is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians.

The International AIDS Society–USA designates this educational activity for a maximum of 11.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Physicians who claimed CME credit for attending the live CME course on which this activity is based may not claim credit for participating in this activity.


Intended Audience for CME Credit


This online CME activity is designed for physicians who are actively involved in HIV/AIDS care. Specifically, these activities have been designed for physicians who:
  • Have a solid, working knowledge of HIV disease management
  • Provide comprehensive or specialty care for at least 10 patients with HIV/AIDS or are involved in HIV/AIDS clinical trials or investigations
  • Have completed at least 10 hours of CME in the area of HIV/AIDS medicine in the past 2 years
This activity is also relevant to nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and other health professionals who provide care to people with HIV disease.
