The 12th Annual Clinical Conference for the Ryan White (RW) HIV/AIDS Program, Part A, B, C, or D was held October 15 to 17, 2009, at the Hyatt Regency in Dallas, Texas. The Clinical Conference was designed to provide RW practitioners with the most relevant and up-to-date information in the field of HIV/AIDS medical care. The Clinical Conference was supported by and planned in collaboration with staff from the HIV/AIDS Bureau (HAB), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the US Department of Health and Human Services, in alliance with the Southeast AIDS Training and Education Center (SEATEC) and the Texas/Oklahoma AIDS Education and Training Center. This state-of-the-art Continuing Medical Education program is sponsored by the International AIDS Society–USA (IAS–USA) under the HRSA contract number HHSH250200900010c.

The Webcast activity consists of audio and visual recording of 13 live presentations. To receive CME credit, please read the overview and follow the link to the presentation.

Needs and Objectives

Upon completion of the Clinical Update, participants will be able to do the following:

  • Design antiretroviral strategies that consider new data on:
    • Initial therapy
    • Interpreting resistance test results
    • Managing antiretroviral regimen failure
  • Describe the current state of the H1N1 virus epidemic
  • Describe the incidence and management of non-AIDS-defining malignancies in HIV
  • Consider current data on investigational treatments for hepatitis C virus infection, as they may impact HCV treatment in the future
  • Describe the drivers of the HIV epidemic in women
  • Formulate appropriate management strategies for the adolescent HIV-infected population
  • Explain the key clinical issues associated with endocrine, metabolic, renal, and cardiovascular complications in HIV disease
  • Formulate medical intervention plans for patients with addictions
  • Diagnose mood disorders that are common in HIV disease

The International AIDS Society–USA designates this educational activity for a maximum of 11.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.


Intended Audience for CME Credit


This online CME activity is designed for physicians who are actively involved in HIV/AIDS care. Specifically, these activities have been designed for physicians who:

  • Have a solid, working knowledge of HIV disease management
  • Provide comprehensive or specialty care for at least 10 patients with HIV/AIDS or are involved in HIV/AIDS clinical trials or investigations
  • Have completed at least 10 hours of CME in the area of HIV/AIDS medicine in the past 2 years
This activity is also relevant for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and other direct clinical care providers who are actively involved in HIV patient care in Ryan White funded programs.
