Needs and Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to:

• Design antiretroviral strategies that consider current data on:
  
  • Initiating therapy
  • Managing treatment failure
  • Interpreting resistance test results
  • Concurrent opportunistic infections
• Develop practical plans for improving patient retention in care
• Describe renal complications of HIV disease and its treatment
• Screen for selected non-AIDS-related malignancies
• Explain the key clinical concerns associated with vitamin D deficiency in HIV-infected patients
• Describe the current state of the H1N1 virus epidemic in HIV-infected individuals

Intended Audience

This online CME activity is designed for physicians and other clinical decision makers who are actively involved in the medical care of people with HIV/AIDS, specifically those who:

• Have a solid, working knowledge of HIV disease management
• Provide comprehensive or specialty care for patients with HIV/AIDS
• Are currently active in HIV/AIDS research

This activity is also relevant to nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and other health professionals who provide care to people with HIV disease.
