Needs and Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  • Design antiretroviral strategies that consider current data on early and late regimen failure
  • Describe the role of immune activation as it relates to HIV progression
  • Explain the key issues and treatment implications associated with HIV and disability, delayed progression in HIV-infected patients, and cardiovascular complications of HIV disease
  • Describe new data on pre-exposure prophylaxis
  • Identify current treatment challenges in HIV care as they relate to the aging population
  • Describe current data on investigational hepatitis C virus drugs as they impact the potential for treatment
  • Formulate appropriate management strategies for HIV patients with advanced liver disease

Intended Audience

This online CME activity is designed for physicians and other clinical decision makers who are actively involved in the medical care of people with HIV/AIDS, specifically those who:
  • Have a solid, working knowledge of HIV disease management
  • Provide comprehensive or specialty care for patients with HIV/AIDS
  • Are currently active in HIV/AIDS research
This activity is also relevant to nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and other health professionals who provide care to people with HIV disease.
