Minimum System Requirements

Windows Media Player

The minimum and recommended system requirements for Windows and Macintosh are provided below.

Windows:
  • Pentium 166 megahertz (MHz) processor
  • 32 MB OF RAM
  • 28.8-kilobits per second (Kbps) modem
  • 16-bit sound card and speakers
  • 256-color video card
  • Microsoft Windows® 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows 2000, or Windows Millennium Edition
  • Internet Explorer 4.0.1 or Netscape 4.0

Recommended:
  • 24-bit true color video card
  • Microsoft Windows 98SE or later
  • 800MHz Processor
  • 128 MB RAM
  • Windows Media Player 7.1 or 9 series

Apple Macintosh System 9 or OS X

  • Microsoft IE 5.x
  • Windows Media Player 7.1 (system 9) or 9 series (OS X)


If you’re not sure about the details of your computer system, here are some ways to find out:

  • For Windows 95/98: On the C Drive, under "My Computer", select "Control Panel." In the window that appears, select the "System" icon. Under the "General" tab you will find the details you need about the operating system (OS), the speed of your processor and how much RAM you have.

  • For Macintosh: Under the Apple Menu, select "Apple System Profiler" and in the window that appears, select the tab "System Profile." Here you will find the details you need about your operating system under "Software Overview"; about RAM, under "Memory Overview," and processor speed under "Hardware Overview."
