SUMMARY:Managing Syphilis in HIV-Coinfected Patients: A Case-Based Approach
DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\nAssessment of Needs\nThe IAS–USA offers this state-of-the-art activity on the evolving challenges of managing sexually transmitted infections (STIs) as part of a nationwide continuing medical education (CME) effort for physicians. The rates of syphilis continue to increase in both men and women. People living with HIV (PLWH) are particularly vulnerable to this infection and its complications. Using a case-based approach\, the goal of this webinar is to provide practical information for clinicians who manage patients co-infected with syphilis and HIV\, including a description of the less common clinical manifestations\, challenging management questions (such as the management of uncooperative nontreponemal serological titers and the need for lumbar punctures)\, and future interventions that could help mitigate the rising toll of this epidemic.\nLearning Objectives\nAt the end of the presentation\, participants will be able to:\n\n Describe the epidemiology and clinical manifestations of syphilis in PLWH\n Explain the rationale for the diagnostic approach recommended for syphilis in PLWH\n Recognize the optimal treatment approach for syphilis in PLWH\n\nRegistration\nWho Should Attend\nThis advanced webinar is designed for physicians who are actively involved in HIV and STI care and research. It is also relevant for registered nurses\, PharmDs\, and other health professionals.\n\nIndividual registration is required\, even if you are viewing as a group\, in order to receive CME credit or a certificate of participation.\n\nRegistration closes on Monday\, October 14\, 2019\, 4:00 PM (PT).\n\nCertificates will be available after the completion of the evaluation and claim form.\n\nFor more information or questions\, please contact the registration department at registration@iasusa.org or 415-544-9400.\nConflicts of Interest\nIn the interest of maintaining the independence of its CME activities\, and in accordance with the policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME)\, the IAS–USA requires all persons with control of content (eg\, faculty\, IAS–USA Board members\, and program staff) to disclose any financial relationships that they or their spouses or partners have had with commercial companies within the past 12 months.
