In Memory of Dr Charles Boucher

The world of virology, and in particular the realms of HIV research, medicine, and education, lost a vital pioneer with the passing of Prof Dr Charles Boucher at the age of 63 on February 26 at his home in Utrecht. He leaves behind him a family to whom he was beloved, friends who were blessed to have him in their lives, and an international community of scientists and students to whom he was an inspiration and unexcelled collaborator in the progress against HIV for decades.

Dr Boucher was a brilliant thought leader in the early study of HIV drug resistance, clearing the way for some of the most important advances from which HIV patients benefit today. He relentlessly pressed against the boundaries of the unexplored and challenged his peers and his students to seek innovative answers to obdurate questions.

With the rest of the scientific community, the IAS–USA honors his life and legacy. To his family and friends, we offer our deep condolences.
