Overview

Program Description

The annual Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI), held February 22–25, 2026, at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, CO, is now available as an on-demand, enduring activity. This offering provides access to selected conference content for those who would like to revisit sessions or engage with material they were unable to attend during the live meeting. Please note that the combined total of CME credits earned from both the live meeting and the on-demand activities may not exceed the maximum allowable number of credits, 28.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.

To earn additional credits, view the on-demand recordings of eligible continuing medical education (CME) sessions, log in to your IAS–USA account, and complete the posttest assessment and conference evaluation. There is no additional cost to claim credits—they are included as part of your CROI 2026 registration.

Assessment of Needs

Since HIV was identified, the scientific response to the global pandemic has been a coordinated effort among basic-science researchers, clinical investigators, healthcare practitioners, epidemiologists, and community leaders to move information and potential treatment options from research to clinical trials and out to affected communities as quickly as possible. CROI was established in 1993 to provide a forum for basic scientists and clinical investigators to present, discuss, and critique their investigations into the epidemiology and biology of human retroviruses and associated diseases. The synergy of basic science and clinical investigation has been a major contributor to the success of the meeting, and CROI has facilitated the presentation of important discoveries in the field, thereby accelerating progress in HIV and AIDS research. CROI continues to focus on scientific exchange, providing an environment in which basic science researchers, translational researchers, clinical investigators, epidemiologists, and public health experts meet to present and discuss the latest research into research in HIV, hepatitis viruses, SARS-CoV-2, mpox, and other viral infections and their related conditions.

Learning Objectives

On completion of this on-demand enduring activity, participants will be able to do the following as they relate to research in HIV, hepatitis viruses, SARS-CoV-2, and MPXV and their related conditions:

  • Describe basic science research advances in the understanding of viral infections, their pathogenesis, and their complications
  • List the most recent findings from clinical trials and the implications of these data for state-of-the-art treatment and prevention strategies
  • Describe current epidemiologic data on the prevalence of infection, transmission, treatment, and linkage to and retention in care in populations worldwide; the implications of these data for public health program planning; and current advances in biobehavioral prevention

Registration

Who Should Attend

This enduring activity is designed for clinical decision makers who are actively involved in HIV care and research, including physicians, physician assistants, nursing professionals, pharmacists, and other health care professionals. Please note that only physician CME credit is available for this activity.

Please note: if you have already participated in the in-person or virtual CROI 2026 and have received CME credits, you will not receive additional credits from the sessions you have attended.

Conflicts of Interest

In the interest of maintaining the independence of its CME activities, IAS–USA requires all persons with control of educational content (eg, faculty, Scientific Leadership Board, Governance Board, and program planner) to disclose any financial relationships with ineligible companies (previously defined as “commercial interests”) that they have had within the past 24 months. Any real or apparent conflicts of interest of those parties are resolved and mitigated prior to the CME activity being delivered. Individuals who refuse to disclose financial interests may not participate in IAS–USA CME activities.

The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) defines ineligible companies as “those whose primary business is producing, marketing, selling, re-selling, or distributing healthcare products used by or on patients.”

IAS–USA has identified and mitigated all relevant financial relationships with ineligible companies among the planners and presenters. Information regarding these relationships for all contributors, planners, and reviewers is available on the CROI website at https://www.croiconference.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/resources/2026/croi-2026-financial-disclosure.pdf. Additionally, disclosures of relevant financial relationships with ineligible companies are available in the slides prior to the presentation of educational content.

CME Credits

The International Antiviral Society–USA (IAS–USA) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The IAS–USA designates this enduring activity for a maximum of 13 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Grant Support

CROI is largely supported by the registration fees of participants. In addition, the IAS–USA seeks grant support from ineligible companies (previously defined as “commercial interests”), particularly from companies with competing products, in the interest of objective, balanced, and scientifically rigorous activities. ACCME defines ineligible companies as “those whose primary business is producing, marketing, selling, re-selling, or distributing healthcare products used by or on patients.” These companies have no input in or control over the selection of faculty or content of the presentations.

CROI 2026 received grant support commitments from the following ineligible companies:

PLATINUM LEVEL SUPPORT

Gilead Sciences, Inc.
Merck & Co, Inc.
ViivHealthcare

BRONZE LEVEL SUPPORT

Theratechnologies, Inc
