Program Description

In this Dialogue, Dr Michael S. Saag will speak with Dr Penny Moore from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. Dr Moore and colleagues were among the first to report the SARS-CoV-2 501Y.V2 (referred as B.1.351 and now the Beta variant) in South Africa and how it could escape antibody neutralization. They will discuss the mechanisms of viral evolution, the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants, the interaction between HIV and COVID-19, and predictions of how vaccines will interplay with variants.
