Program Description

This course will cover the unique issues and challenges in providing care for people with HIV as they age.

Assessment of Needs

Rapid advances in HIV disease management require the ongoing attention of practitioners involved in HIV medicine. This course will address the implications of new information on strategies for clinical management. Information will be presented through a mix of didactic lectures and clinically relevant cases developed by an expert faculty of HIV/AIDS clinicians and researchers.

Learning Objectives

After participating in the activity, learners will be better able to:

  • Assess frailty in older people with HIV
  • Conduct neurocognitive assessments in older patients with HIV
  • List strategies for preventing and managing cardiovascular disease in older patients with HIV and
  • Identify, manage, and prevent polypharmacy in older patients with HIV
  • Identify key primary care concerns for the aging population
  • Describe evidence-based approaches that can be used to treat and manage chronic pain in older patients with HIV

Conflicts of Interest

In the interest of maintaining the independence of its continuing education activities, and in accordance with the policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the IAS–USA requires all persons with control of content (eg, faculty, IAS–USA Board members, and program staff) to disclose any financial relationships with ineligible companies (previously defined as “commercial interests”) that they or their spouses or partners have had within the past 24 months. Who Should Attend

This course is designed for physicians who are actively involved in the medical care of people with HIV infection and:

  • Have a solid, working knowledge of HIV disease management
  • Provide comprehensive or specialty care for patients with HIV infection
  • Are currently active in HIV research

This activity is also relevant to nurse practitioners, registered nurses, physician assistants, registered pharmacists, and other health professionals.

Representatives and employees of commercial companies (eg, pharmaceutical, diagnostic, medical products, advertising, insurance, investment, and communications firms) must contact the IAS–USA regarding registration procedures.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation requests must be made 8 or more days before the date of an activity. All refunds will be processed minus a $15.00 processing charge. Regrettably, any cancellation requests received within a week before the course will not be eligible for the partial refund.

CME Credits

The International Antiviral Society–USA (IAS–USA) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The IAS–USA designates this enduring material for a maximum of 4.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

ABIM MOC Points

ABIM MOCSuccessful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 4.50 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

Nursing Credits

Educational Review Systems is an approved approver of continuing nursing education by the Alabama State Nursing Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Provider # 5-115. This program is approved for 4.50 hours of continuing nursing education.

Educational Review Systems is also approved for nursing continuing education by the state of California, the state of Florida and the District of Columbia.

This program is approved for 4.50 hours of pharmacotherapy credit.

Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education logo Educational Review Systems is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Participants of the session who complete the evaluation and provide accurate NABP e-Profile information will have their credit for 4.50 contact hours (0.450 CEU) submitted to CPE Monitor as early as 14 days after the event and no later than 60 days after the event. Please know that if accurate e-Profile information is not provided within 60 days of the event, credit cannot be claimed after that time. The participant is accountable for verifying the accurate posting of CE credit to their CPE Monitor account within 60 days.
