On-Demand Webinar: Physical Function and Frailty in HIV: What Does It Mean, How Do We Measure It, Why Should We Care, and What Can We Do?

The IAS–USA offers this state-of-the-art activity on the evolving challenges of managing HIV disease as part of a nationwide continuing medical education (CME) effort for physicians. Maintenance of a high level of physical function is a cornerstone in the care of the older patient. Impairments in physical function and the development of frailty may occur more commonly in adults aging with HIV than in the general population. This webinar will review the clinical relevance of physical function and frailty measures, provide insight into appropriate tools for different settings, and review interventions that may attenuate or improve physical function impairments or frailty.

Upon completion of this webinar, learners will be able to:

• Describe the clinical relevance of physical function and frailty measures
• Select tools for physical function and frailty in the clinical or research setting
• Develop interventions to attenuate or reverse frailty or impairments in physical function

Conflicts of Interest

In the interest of maintaining the independence of its CME activities, and in accordance with the policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the IAS–USA requires all persons with control of content (eg, faculty, IAS–USA Board members, and program staff) to disclose any financial relationships that they or their spouses or partners have had with commercial companies within the past 12 months. Any real or apparent conflicts of interest of those parties are resolved prior to the CME activity being delivered. Individuals who refuse to disclose financial interests may not participate in an IAS–USA CME activity.

The ACCME defines a commercial interest as “any entity producing, marketing, re-selling, or distributing health care goods or services consumed by, or used on, patients. The ACCME does not consider providers of clinical service directly to patients to be commercial interests – unless the provider of clinical service is owned, or controlled by, an ACCME-defined commercial interest.”
