Program Description
This enduring on-demand HIV course offers a timely and comprehensive update on the latest advancements and ongoing challenges in HIV care management. The course addresses key topics in HIV and sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention and treatment, including updated approaches to preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) selection, glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) and their impact on metabolic complications, aging-related concerns in people with HIV, and complex antiretroviral therapy (ART) clinical decision-making. Faculty also discusses substance use disorders (SUDs), drug-drug interactions involving long-acting and newer agents, and investigational drugs and treatment strategies in the pipeline.
Assessment of Needs
Rapid advances in HIV prevention, ART, comorbidity management, and investigational treatment strategies require ongoing education for clinicians caring for people with HIV. This course will address the implications of new information on strategies for the clinical management of HIV and related comorbidities. Information will be presented through a mix of didactic lectures, clinically relevant cases, and expert panel discussions developed and led by an expert faculty of HIV/AIDS clinicians and researchers.
Learning Objectives
After participating in the activity, learners will be able to:
- Implement the latest recommendations for initiating and changing ART in particular clinical circumstances, such as comorbid conditions, coinfections, pregnancy, and issues in older patients
- Describe the most current data from recent HIV scientific conferences, including research on new and investigational antiretroviral drugs
- Apply current data and recommendations for HIV and STI prevention, including selection of appropriate PrEP options
- Describe the role of GLP-1 RAs and their impact on metabolic syndromes in people with HIV
- Identify clinical considerations related to aging with HIV, including cognitive decline, mental health, and frailty
- Recognize and manage clinically relevant drug-drug interactions, including those involving long-acting and newer HIV therapies
- Apply evidence-based recommendations for the prevention and management of SUDs and comorbidities in people with HIV
Conflicts of Interest
In the interest of maintaining the independence of its continuing medical education (CME) activities, the International Antiviral Society–USA (IAS–USA) requires all persons with control of educational content (eg, faculty, Scientific Leadership Board, Governance Board, and program planner) to disclose any financial relationships with ineligible companies (previously defined as “commercial interests”) that they have had within the past 24 months. Any real or apparent conflicts of interest of those parties are resolved and mitigated prior to the CME activity being delivered. Individuals who refuse to disclose financial interests may not participate in IAS–USA CME activities.
The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) defines ineligible companies as “those whose primary business is producing, marketing, selling, re-selling, or distributing healthcare products used by or on patients.”
IAS–USA has identified and mitigated ahead of time any possible conflicts of interest that may influence CME activities with regard to exposition or conclusion. Information about financial relationships with ineligible companies for the presenter and planners/reviewers is below and in the slides prior to the presentation of educational content.
