IAS–USA Dialogues are spirited, timely conversations on the public health, scientific, and clinical aspects of current urgent outbreaks, including seasonal viruses such as influenza, emerging infectious disease threats in the US and around the world, controversies surrounding trustworthy guidance on vaccinations, and other topics of the day. Program Description
Experts discuss current “hot-button” issues and answer audience questions. The conversations are available on-demand and in podcast format after broadcast on the IAS−USA website, with the warning that the shelf life of information on urgent outbreaks is often quickly outdated as scientific knowledge evolves. What we know today may well be different from what we know tomorrow. A wide range of topics may be covered, such as:
- Emerging US health threats: diseases that were once considered nonendemic in the US, such as chikungunya, Chagas, leishmaniasis, malaria, and Dengue fever, are appearing with increasing frequency
- Vaccination controversies: where can clinicians find trustworthy sources on current best practices?
- Respiratory illnesses: H5N1, H9N2, and other avian influenza strains
- Rash-presenting diseases: measles and mpox
- Diarrheal diseases: norovirus, cyclospora, and Ebola disease
- Mosquito- and tick-borne threats: Dengue fever, Alpha-gal syndrome, screwworm, and Disease X
The Dialogue series is intended for health care clinicians and researchers, including infectious diseases and HIV specialists. The conversations are available on-demand after broadcast on the IAS−USA website and are featured in episodes of the IAS–USA Going anti-Viral podcast, with the warning that the shelf life of information on urgent infectious diseases is often quickly outdated as scientific knowledge evolves. What we know today may well be different from what we know tomorrow.
